I make earrings across the full spectrum – from simple studs you’d wear every day to statement drops that demand attention. All are made from sterling silver, often with 18ct gold details, and most incorporate stones or beads.
The studs tend to be straightforward: small textured settings holding moonstone, lapis, or other cabochons, sometimes with a gold centre or accent. I also make simple geometric forms – spirals, circles, domes – that sit close to the ear. These are quiet pieces, designed to be worn without thinking about them.
The drop earrings are where I allow myself more freedom. Some are minimal – a single hammered disc or triangle hanging from a wire, maybe with a small gold detail. Others are more elaborate: long tapering forms in textured silver, or large geometric shapes combined with beads and stones. I’m drawn to crescent and lunate shapes, heavily textured discs, and architectural forms that move when you move.
I use a lot of lapis, amber, carnelian, and amethyst in the earrings, along with small trade beads and handmade silver spacers. The stones are either set in bezels or strung as part of the composition. The metalwork is always textured – sometimes subtly, sometimes heavily oxidized and worked to look almost ancient.
All the ear wires are handmade, usually simple hooks that I forge and hammer. I prefer them to have a bit of weight and presence rather than disappearing into the background.
Whether you’re after small everyday studs or bold drops that make a statement, these earrings are built to last and designed to be worn often. They’re not precious in the sense of being delicate – they’re meant to be part of your daily life.
David.
